There are a lot of guides on how to install XP on your EEEPC which are really great and I appreciate the time and effort that has been put into them… but if you’re like me, some of you may have tried and failed due to one reason or another. In my case, I had XP2002 which won’t install on the EEEPC as the guides will tell you. Installing Audacity on the Eee PCSource: eeesite.net My primary plan for my Eee PC is to use it a mobile blogging tool. But I just had to see if I could install some audio editing software. It turns out the answer is yes. Yes I could.Color me a little bit shocked that I managed to do this on my first day with my new toy. I had kind of sworn to myself that I wouldn't install any new software until I had played with everything the Eee PC had to offer out of the box. But where's the fun in that? When you first power up the Eee PC, there are about 40 programs installed. One is a sound recorder, but that won't get you very far if you're editing podcasts or radio stories. Ardour might be pushing it a bit, so I figured I would try to install Audacity. Asus Eee PC Tweak GuideSource: www.notebookreview.com< Easy to disassemble, easy to upgrade, and easy to create warranty headaches is probably the slogan many advanced users will be thinking soon after they get their hands on an Asus Eee PC. During our initial review we realized that this device had so much more potential than what we had first expected. Not counting the storage limitation, this little machine was as powerful as notebooks four to five times its price. The Xandros Linux environment could be expanded with more traditional programs, and better yet this device could fully support Windows XP out of the box. We also wanted to touch on upgrading the Eee PC, since its stock configuration doesn’t really have as much ram as what you would want for more stressing software. Some users will probably enjoy the minimalistic Linux environment included on the Eee PC out of the box, and not want to drastically change anything ... just add a few programs. Jerry, our site editor, fell into this crowd and found that one program lacking from the Eee PC out of the box was Gimp, a photo editor. You could see mentioning of this program if you tried to open image files, but it was a dead link that would introduce you to a helpful error stating “Could not find the program 'The'”. Needless to say it got our hopes up, but left us wanting more. Windows Apps on Your Linux Eee PCSource: www.laptopmag.com One of the reservations many have about purchasing a Xandros Eee PC, or any notebook running Linux for that matter, is the Linux operating system's inability to run their favorite Windows based programs. Lots of applications are released with a Linux version, but some like iTunes and Adobe Photoshop, aren't. Ubuntu Hardy on the EeeSource: eee.ricey.co.uk Thursday 24th April 2008 saw the release of Ubuntu (Hardy Heron) 8.04 (and friends). So it was time to get it on my Eee. I had tried to get the Beta to install with little success - I thought getting Hardy onto the Eee would be a nightmare! To my surprise, however, after a little research and the experience of installing Gutsy, Hardy is now fully running on my Eee. Everything works including overclocking. |
