The first picture shows the standard swipe-style fingerprintreader that I used. It is the Eikon digital privacy manager which comes with a software package by Upek. I prefer the Upek package over most other fingerprintreader packages I've seen so far because it allows me to assign applications to fingers, login at windows, it has some linux support and it tracks my passwords for websites in both IE and Firefox (though not Firefox 3.0 yet - they're working on that at the moment). The device's outward appearance makes it seem rather bulky, but the actual electronics inside of it are really quite small.

I am proud to announce that the Internal ZIF connector WORKS!!!
I will be updating this first posts with new findings... so please read this post first!

This tutorial will aid you to a larger capacity EeePC 901 using the built-in ZIF connector, this is in no way an idiot proof guide, but will give you enough idea as to what your options are.

This feature is NOT for everyone, if you dont like it, dont do it, this thread is for people who does and for those interested and have questions.

just wanted to post success with fido's hub, though I modified the wires to put the hub under the MOB and add two usb plugs under the RAM door. it's true that practice makes perfect... got this mod. done, with all the resoldering in under 2 hours!

it was a very long run from the hub back up to the webcam, so if possible, it might be better to keep the hub up in the lid.... but then I would have had two fairly long runs back down under the MOB for the usb plugs...

I wanted an internal USB flash drive, but did not want to open up the unit (other than the memory access door) or solder anything to the board. I wanted the mod to be 100% reversable, with no traces left at all, thus preserving the warranty. A tall order perhaps? Not as it turns out.

I was looking at my eee the other day (a new white 4g, without a flash connector in the memory bay), and pondered the 3 usb ports. Too bad, I said to no one but me, that one of those couldn't somehow be accessed from the memory door area; after all, I can't imagine using all 3 of them at once, ever. Looking at the ports on the right side, I noticed the two little metal tabs in the bottom of each port; through the small gap around each tab, I could see light coming through the vent under the wlan card. I wondered further whether four small wires could pass through the gaps around those little tabs, under the wlan card (or over it, if you've turned your eee upside down by now), and into the open flash bay. I tested with a bit of solid wire, and found I could easily guide a wire into the flash bay; there's nothing obstructing the path.

I have completed my first Eee PC modification, this modification adds Bluetooth functionality and 16GB of flash storage.

At first I intended to solder the two USB devices directly to the motherboard but after careful consideration I decided the ability to easily replace the modules should take priority.

Both ports are 5V and use the USB connections from the unused Mini PCI Express port and the USB connections from the Mini PCI Express port used by the wireless card.
