That was the fastest XP install I have ever done. The trimmed down install was very small It booted right up into 640×480 32bit color. The left and right mouse buttons were reversed. Figuring that out took longer than changing it did. TIME TO MAKE ROOM- Kill that virtual memory

PAGEFILE.SYS may remain even after you have set your virtual memory to ZERO or off.
You really do not need to defrag a solid state hard drive but if you run defrag you will get a pretty good idea if your drive still has PAGEFILE.SYS parked on it.

The pagefile is NOT virtual memory. Virtual memory is a system that virtualizes all access to RAM. RAM is never accessed directly but only via the virtual memory system. The pagefile is a small but important component of this system. You can disable the pagefile (NOT RECOMMENDED) but this will not disable virtual memory. It will probably impair performance.
Best advice regarding the pagefile: Leave it alone.

Do not defrag
There is no performance gain by degragging SSD drives. In fact it will reduce their life. Each sector can only handle so many writes, and the older SSDs do not have write balancing. ( feature found on newer SSDs that helps to increase the life of SSD drives ).
Also from what I knew even if you disable virtual memory. Windows still uses it. There is no way to make your system run 100% on memory. ( pissed me off too ).
Great blog. I am buying a used 901 off ebay this week. Can't wait to paint / mod it to death. The older EEE pcs have become the honda civic for nerds. Buy them for nothing then dump hundreds into aftermarket customizations.
